Where My Journey Began
The Prism App began as a way to help customers improve their financial lives following the Great Recession. Over time, it became a revolutionary new way to view and pay bills. Customers simply link their bills in Prism using credentials, and are able to view, pay, and be reminded about bills, all in one easy-to-use app.
Strive to Delight
Bill pay is hectic for most people: logging into different sites, various due dates to keep track of, changing balances; the Prism app was designed to change this. Like a Prism pulling all colors into one, the app placed all of your bills in one simple app.
The design was meant to be the antithesis of banks. Unlike the bland, boring UI of banks, Prism was bright and colorful. This simple, yet delightful UI turned what was normally a stressful experience into a joyful one.
Over the course of 10 years, Prism allowed users to pay nearly 20k different billers, processing billions of dollars in payments. But most importantly, customers loved Prism. Prism was where I truly learned how to take a user’s problem and improve their life through product and design. I was lucky enough to work in all facets of the app, from customer support to designing and implementing new features.
Prism was successfully acquired twice: by Handle Financial in 2016 and by BillGO in 2018. Much of the UI and UX was then appropriated into other successful BillGO products. Additionally, the Prism app became its own API, which powered the bill pay of Quicken and Allied Payment Network, a leading provider of bank bill pay.
